The Google X Phone May Include Voice Activation Feature

Google acquired Motorola Mobility a year ago in order to produce Google branded smartphones. So after partnering with LG to produce the Google Nexus 4 smartphone, it is only logical to expect a lot of Google phones being made by Motorola in the future. This will be the case with the Google Nexus 5 phone, which will also be known by the name of Google X phone or Motorola X phone.

The information available at the time of writing is still very unclear. Most sources agree that the X phone will have a screen size of 4.7 inches. At 4.7 inches, the screen size of the X phone will have the same dimensions as the Google Nexus 4 smartphone. However other sources are saying that the X phone will have a screen size of 4.8 inches or even 5 inches.

The specifications of the hardware are also unknown as at today. One source states that it will have a NVIDIA Tegra 4i CPU while another source states that the processor will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. In any case, both are quad-core processors that can run at 2.3 GHz, even though the processor speed by itself is not sufficient as a measure of processing power. Another source states that the X phone will have a dual-core Qualcomm processor, which is pretty poor when compared to today’s high end smartphones and phablets.

Google’s new phone is expected to come with 32 GB of storage and 2 GB of RAM. It is yet unknown whether the operating system installed will be Android 4.2, Android 4.3 or perhaps even Android 5.0.1, provided the phone won’t be released in the next few months.

Having said this, rumours are rife that Google will produce the phone with hardware customization in mind. In other words, buyers will be free to choose the hardware specifications for the smartphone, like the processor type and amount of memory installed. This concept is nothing new, as some major PC manufacturers have been selling user customized PCs for years. However it makes a lot of sense if you think about it: a power user would want the latest and most powerful quad core or eight core processor and 3 GB of RAM, but one who mainly uses the smartphone to make and receive phone calls might be happy with a dual core processor and 1 GB of RAM. The colours should also be customizable, as well as the body composition. If the rumours are correct, users can select from plastic, wood, carbon fibre or metal.
