Samsung Galaxy Grand i9082 – A Budget Offering from Samsung

Samsung knows that not everybody can afford to buy a Samsung Galaxy S4. As a matter of fact, not everybody can afford to buy a Galaxy S3. While the Galaxy S3 has been around for about a year, it is still selling for more than $440 at Amazon.com and selling for more than £325 at Amazon.co.uk. That is where the Samsung Galaxy Grand i9082, a 5 inch screen phablet that was just released in April 2013.

The Galaxy Grand is far from being a power horse like the Galaxy S4, but on the other side not everybody has the needs to use a power horse. As a matter of fact, the Grand has a 1.2 GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 CPU, a Broadcom VideoCore IV graphics processing unit and 1 GB of RAM. The phablet has 8 GB of internal memory, of which just 4.4 GB are available to the user. However, the storage can be expanded by inserting a microSD card of up to 64 GB in size. However the Grand does one thing better than the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4, that is dual-SIM capability.

The screen is protected with Gorilla Glass and runs at a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels with a pixel density of approximately 187 pixels per inch. The 8 megapixel back camera takes 1080 pixel videos at 30 frames per second. LED flash is also included and the camera also supports face and smile detection, image stabilization and geo-tagging. The secondary camera takes photos of up to 2 megapixels. The phablet weighs 162 g (5.71 oz) and the dimensions are 143.5 x 76.9 x 9.6 mm (5.65 x 3.03 x 0.38 inches).

Other features include stereo FM radio, compass, gyro, accelerometer and proximity sensors. Power is provided by means of a 2100 mAh Lithium Ion battery. The Grand comes installed with Android Jelly Bean version 4.1.2. The Galaxy Grand is priced at around $380 at Amazon.com, while at Amazon.co.uk, it is selling at around £245.
