Samsung Galaxy Win I8550 – A Low Cost Mini-Phablet with Dated Specifications

Samsung has recently released the Samsung Galaxy Win I8550, a 4.7 inch screen mini-phablet with quad-core processor, in India. Selling at prices as low as 16,600 Indian Rupees, which is equivalent to $302, €233 or £193, many will be tricked into thinking that Samsung is going nuts by selling a quad-core processor smartphone at such a low price. However, by looking at the specs, one will soon realize that the specifications on the Galaxy Win are now a bit dated.

While the processor is a quad core, it is the 1.2 GHz Cortex-A5, which has been around for quite some time, as does the Qualcomm MSM8625Q Snapdragon 200 Adreno 203 graphics processor. The 5 megapixel camera also looks fairly dated. Video recording is also pretty poor, as it only supports 720 pixel recording at 15 frames per second.

On the plus side, the I8550 provides dual SIM card capability and FM radio with RDS. Proximity and accelerometer sensors are included, as is a compass. The display supports of pixel density of about 199 pixels per inch and a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The Galaxy Win weighs just under 144g (5.04 oz) and it has dimensions of 133.3 x 70.7 x 9.7 mm (5.25 x 2.78 x 0.38 inches). The battery is a Lithium Ion 2000 mAh one.

It has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory space. About 4 GB of these is taken by the operating system files, whicl leaves about 4 GB of free space. However the storage space can be expanded by a further 32 GB by means of a microSD card. The operating system on the Galaxy Win is Android Jelly Bean version 4.1.2.
