Building on the huge popularity of the Xperia Z, it looks like Sony will soon launch the Xperia ZR. The ZR will look very similar to the Z, or to be more precise to the Xperia ZL, as it will not have a glass body like the Xperia Z. However it will have a smaller screen of 4.6 inches, a resolution of 1280 x 720 and a 720p display. Therefore the ZR will not be a phablet, but perhaps one can call it a mini phablet.
According to the information available, the ZR will have similar hardware to the Z: Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset with quad-core 1.5GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. Like its bigger brother, the memory on the ZR may be expanded by inserting a microSD memory card. The main camera on the Xperia ZR is will have a resolution of 13MP while the battery will have a capacity of 2300mAh.
One of the reasons why the Xperia Z was so popular was its IP57 rating, which makes it dust resistant and water resistant up to 30 minutes at 1 metre of depth. The Xperia ZR is expected to do better as it will come with a rating of IP58, which makes it water resistant at 1.5 meters for a maximum period of 30 minutes. As these news are not official yet, the expected release date of the Xperia ZR is still unknown.
