New Sony Phablets Coming Soon

According to recent rumours, Sony is looking to release two new phablet models in the coming months. These two models are code-named Honami and Togari.

Honami is expected to supersede the Xperia Z as Sony’s new flagship device. Like the Z, Honami is expected to be a phablet with a 1080p five inch screen. This new device should be a serious contender to the Samsung Galaxy S4 and with a quad-core Snapdragon 800 chip running at 2.3 GHz, one would expect this device to be on the same league if not faster than the S4 when it comes to processor benchmark speeds. Honami is expected to have 2GB of RAM and a 2700 mAh battery, although it might come with a 3000 mAh according to another source.

Great improvements over the Xperia Z are to be expected, especially from a camera point of view. Apart from sporting a 20MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens, the new flagship should feature a new user interface that is similar in operation to Sony’s popular line of Cybershot cameras. According to Sony, the LED flash on this new phablet will be up to ten times brighter when compared to today’ smartphones. If the rumours are correct, a Walkman audio chip will also be inbuilt.

Togari, on the other hand, is Sony’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy Note III – it is expected to have a full 1080p HD screen that is 6.44 inches big and a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Togari should look similar to the Xperia Z and like the Xperia Z, its backside should also be made of glass. According to one particular source, this phablet will have a 3,500 mAh battery. It is expected to have an Adreno 330 quad-core processor running at 2.3 GHz, 3 GB of RAM, 32 BG internal memory and a microSD slot. The main camera should have a resolution of 13 MP while the front facing camera should have a resolution of 2 MP.

As can be expected from Sony, both Honami and Togari are expected to be dust and water resistant. The expected release date for both models is sometime in July, even though there is nothing official at this point in time. A July release would make sense Sony’s point of view as Togari might steal away some of the Galaxy Note III market, similar to what happened when Sony released the Xperia Z before the Galaxy S4.
